When I try to display this character - ü - extracted from a MySQL table, it won't show up on my webpage. It shows as a question mark.

Why? If I look at the source, in there it looks just fine.

Try with MySQL's COLLATE clause.

Example:

SELECT text COLLATE collation_name AS newtext FROM table
