Can't install Apache on Vista

I can't install Apache 1 on Vista. I don't want Apache 2 because I heard it doesn't work well with PHP.

I've tried everything including installing it through commandprompt while shutting off my firewall and UAC as well as disabling IIS service.

It always installs "successfully", but then I get a Windows error that says "Apache.exe stopped working and was closed".

Help! I've wasted enough time on this already! How can I get Apache up & running so I can get back to my website?

I have tried those links and it is working till date on my machine. I am using Window Vista Home Premium.

I already tried that too - no dice. I still get the exact same error message. Any thoughts anyone???
