I recently installed mysql version 4.0.20d-win on my machine (I have Windows XP) and I cannot access the databases. It installed successfully, and started up fine. However, when I ask it to show me the databases, it appears that I only have the "test" database and not the "mysql" database. When I attempt to set the passwords for the databases it tells me: Access denied for both the test and root databases. When I use the windows command line it also tells me that "mysql" and "shell" are not recognized as internal or external commands, operable programms, or batch files. I am new at mysql. Did I install it wrong? Should I be using the windows command line? Please help!
