Hi everybody, i´m a software developer from Costa Rica willing to help. I'm recently working a lot with PHP due to work issues :P. I´ve been using Zend Development Studio is really good in comparison with other PHP IDE's but it hink there's more to do, (and ideas to get from it) like:

- MySql Integration,
- Intellisense
- CVS/Subversion support
- Navigation through classes (PHP 5)
- etc...

But I´ve worked in Java (My favorite) and the best IDE i´ve have ever known and recommend a lot is IntelliJ IDEA (now version 5) at www.jetbrains.net. The features it provides including a great CVS/Subversion tool, a lot of plugins that include UML Diagram tools, optimizers, etc is really awsome. Also the GUI is great, easy to use and at the same time with complex and useful tools. I think thats "the model" to follow. The design and the functionality are unbeatable. I will be glad to help in brainstorming, designing, programming, testing, etc. I prefer Java for developing but I can get back to C++. greetings.

PD: Java users, i suggest trying out Intellij IDEA, it will change the way you see Java development.

I'd love to help too. But as c.y.p.h.e.r said above has the idea completely died? I am an expert at PHP and I have messed with many other languages.

The best language to program the IDE in would be C++ if you want it to be speedy... which I would because its so annoying when I open a Java app for example and it takes forever to load

Hey folks.

Glad to see there is still interested in this.

The idea has not died - I've just been sidetracked.

I'll been updating the forum system on here and making some other layout changes over the next week or so - once I get some of this done I'll create a private forum for us to start talking more seriously about this.

Smile Hi guys,

Great idea. I'm willing to help for this project.

Im a programmer here in the Philippines. I developed a lot of projects in C/C++ and LAMP. I'm knowledgeable in:
C/C++
PHP
Mysql
ASP
VB Script
Visual Basic

Right now, I'm using Zend Studio for my php coding.

For the suggested name.. my suggestion is that.. it should has a meaning..not actually a deep meaning but a catchy, short and smart meaning.. My suggestion is PHP1G (PHP as the Great One).. Great- because this is developed by great people who is willing to give their time, effort, knowledge and power for this project irregardless of their nation and capabilities.. One-means One goal, One objective, One vision.

I love to hear comment for this..

Fixed my visual studio installation.

So my personal suggestion still stands: C++ using the Qt cross-platform framework in it's open-source version, this way we ensure that it can be built for windows, linux/uniw and macintosh systems and it already offers nice wrappers for plug-in architectures and stuff.

Name suggestion: Visual PHP (short: vphp) - even though I'd have no problem using something else, it's just some working title for me at the moment.

Hey Folks...

This is just a fantastic project to see happening. I've been coding PHP professionally for 8 years and in that time I've struggled to find the perfect IDE, similar to what Visual Studio is to ASP/.NET development.

I've tried so many editors during that time but for many years I used Homesite. Recently have found myself using EditPlus because of the integrated FTP, and being able to work on files remotely.

Obviously this project has some fundamental planning to go before this, but I would like to make the suggestion to create an extremely detailed feature list. I think the way to go would be for everyone involved to pick the eyes out of their favourite editors/IDEs and make suggestions of valuable features. Things like...
  • Homesite's table wizard. I've still never seen anything like, or anything as good as it.
  • Integrated features similar to Beyond Compare.
  • Project management that allows you to define production files, a staging/test server and a live server.
  • Good regular expression Search & Replace, similar to Edit Plus except Edit Plus' regular expressions don't seem to work to standards. I've found a couple of instances with simple regular expressions that it just doesn't match, still scratching my head about it.
  • Some Zend Studio features, except being slow beyond comparison.
Anyway, just some ideas, I really look forward to seeing this project move forward!

Cheers.

Cool

Ok simple and easy. Those who wants to contribute to the project, you can contact stuart . I guess C++ is the way to go too and probably code::block could be the IDE for cross platform C++ programming. GTK for Linux and MFC/Forms for windows.

Idea is drag drop *.dll/*.so to add/remove features. Make it as portable as possible. Each linked library will contain a small module written by users and there will be a core team to create the basic design of the interface for both windows and linux. The core programmer is to produce the first running version on both platforms as a standard for the plugins. Make sure that the interface are flexible and not anchored.
