For all our Asian friends (and the ones programming sites in Asian languages ;-)) there is one editor which is able to do PHP highlighting as well as UTF-8 which is necessary if you want to safe Kanji for example.

I'm a newbie but I have tried NVu - not soley PHP but seems to do a decent job.

I looked at PHP Designer 2005 but (1) it is Windows only and (2) requires Apache be installed. I do not want to install Apache or IIS for that matter and want something platform independent.

Any suggestions?

BTW - I have used JEdit but sometimes have difficulty with sftp on versions 4.0 and up. That functionality is essential.
