Hey, is there no beginners out there willling to enter the contest?

So far I have had 0 entries for the beginners contest.... Well they prizes may be passed to the dudes in the B4 contest. Nevermind.....

If I don't get any entries then maybe it's not worth the effort running 2 contests parallel anymore. It's clear I need to rethink the beginners contests.

I do have a lot of interest in both contests but for some reason not very many entries (in the beginners one anyway).....

I have quite a few in for the B4 contest so no need to worry there, Im pretty certain there will be some great scripts and solutions.

I was thinking again of running a team event - maybe teams of 5 or something writing different software and having site visitors vote for the winning team. Anyone up for this type of thing? Im sure many great prizes will be involve!!

Take it easy folks!!!

Stuart

The beginner contests seem to be too labor intensive and the parameters are too subjective. Perhaps more of a problem solving challenge would be more interesting. Something with measurable results would be best. I guess that leads directly to the advanced contest.

I would agree, combine the two contests into one and then shake it up every couple months with a team event that would bring in the design and usability people.

I would be totally into the team events. I would suggest that all collaboration be web-based, so as to level the playing field and encourage improvement in communication skills.

You could re-open the rubix cube contest to teams, but require that all moves be translated into a visually animated format...Flash or SVG. Options could include a manual-play mode with "Hint" and "Auto-Solve" buttons.

Well I am a beginner but i am so new to php i wouldnt know where to start lol . Ive been learning it for about a week now. Ive liked the Advanced contests more to date though (i looked at contest archive) because they are more like problem solving as dcann said. I took a look at the one where you are to display URL information and i wouldnt know where to begin, but on the jumbled words i felt i had more of an idea of how to do it (even though i still couldnt)

I'll be you anything that if I scrambled up a Rubik's Cube, that you couldn't do it in 2 minutes. Sorry, you might be a programming genius, but you're not THAT fast. No one is :-)
