 Jedit
This is the only one editor that I stayed at after monther of trying others. I used PhpEdit, PhpEd, ExpertEditor, PHP Designer - none of them gave me what I had with Jedit.
Minuses about Jedit: - slow because of written on Java - a little bit difficult to set up everything with your needs for a newbie - no debugger for php - none such code completion (eg PhpEd and PhpEdit have)
Benefits: - it free ) - perfect macros support (with macroses and bash you could do whatever you can and can't imagine) - lots of plugins - actually these plugins a giving the most of benefits for php functionality of Jedit (like code folding, code browser, using of ctags famous for unix, code beautifiers - supports Smarty code highlight (as good as many other languages) - because it's on Java it's platform-independent - perfect code screen splitting tool - you can split screen to whatever number of parts you want. this is may be the same document - perfect searching feature - you can use regurlar expression to find and to highlight what you need - things like FTP and database connection - feeling good here too :)
I'm using it for two days so far. Can't stop loving it.
