Post New website for PHP game developers
If you are a PHP developer, especially one who likes to design browser-based games, please come to my new site at www.hackworks.net and register. There is currently a blog and forum.

My blog discusses the different projects I am working on, so if you're interested in following game development and business application development then come over and check it out. I am also looking for member suggestions on how to make the site a great community for developers.

See you there.

To clarify my first post, hackworks.net is for anyone interested in web development. The blog only discusses open-source technologies such as PHP and MySQL, but everyone is welcome to post questions, answers, and comments in the forum.

If you have a question that isn't getting answered in this forum, give it a try at hackworks.net. And while you're there, offer some suggestions to make it the kind of online community you would like to be a part of.

In the near future, I will be adding a project area where developers can create projects and then invite others into the team. Consider it like sourceforge.net or freshmeat.net.

With the goal of finding other like-minded developers, I am adding a member profile page with custom display options so you get to decide what information is public or private.

Together, we can build a developer community for developers, by developers.

You absolutely can make a good game with PHP - if you know PHP. It should go without saying that you're not going to create a World of Warcraft clone with a web scripting language, but then you can't do it without a huge staff and millions of dollars either.

There is a lot to be said for browser-based games: they can be as fun and addicting as any console or PC game. They may not have the fluid 3D graphics of a game written in C++ or Java, but most of the best games ever made had mediocre graphics. Games should be judged on their playability and fun, and by those measures, PHP is more than adequate for developing a good game.
